UFC and TUF veteran Andy Wang returns to action at Gladiator Challenge's "Venom"

 

UFC veteran Andy Wang returns to MMA action at Gladiator Challenge's "Venom," which will be taking place April 23rd at the beautiful Casino Pauma. I spoke with him recently about his upcoming fight, as well as his experience on the UFC's Ultimate Fighter show.

 

Phil: How's everything going?

Andy: Everything is good. Training has gone well, and I'm healed from the injury that kept me out of the January Gladiator Challenge event. I hope to get the match-up with Saad Awad that was planned someday, but this is a good fight for me, as well.

 

Phil: What do you know about your opponent at "Venom?"

Andy: From what I hear, he's strong and aggressive, whether on his feet or the ground. But I have some tricks up my sleeve.

 

Phil: What is your greatest MMA skill?

Andy: The ground is my area of strength.

 

Phil: So I'm guessing you're planning to show that at "Venom"...

Andy: Absolutely.

 

Phil: Can you talk about your experience with the UFC?

Andy: I didn't show my best fights in the UFC. I use that as motivation. I want to show people why I was on the Ultimate Fighter to begin with...

 

Phil: What are your thoughts on making your Gladiator Challenge debut?

Andy: I know this fight is a tough challenge, and I look forward to it. I'm expecting a tough, physical fight. My fights are fast and physical, and while I respect him, this is going to be a clash. The fans will love this fight. I'm going to take it to him till the last bell.

 

Phil: Where do you go from here?

Andy: Legacy is on my mind. This opportunity means a lot to me. I feel like I'm coming full-circle in my career. I've always heard about Gladiator Challenge, and now it's my time to make my mark on the promotion. And when it's time for me to leave MMA, I want to leave on my own terms.

 

Phil: Do you have a message for the Gladiator Challenge fans?

Andy: I hope you'll all come out and support Gladiator Challenge at "Venom." I want to put on a good show for the fans, and exhibit the skills that I have. I hope to see you all at the fights!
